Mani Ratnam becomes first Tamil director to join Oscar committee as a member
The Oscar selection committee extended an invitation to Mani Ratnam. He entered the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences as the first Tamil director ever. The Academy invited 398 additional performers and businesspeople on Wednesday, including Ram Charan, Jr. NTR, Karan Johar, and others. Mani Ratnam, a seasoned director, is currently a member of the esteemed Oscar selection committee. Movies like Poniyin Selvan, Dil Se, OK Kanmani, Raavan, Guru, Yuva, Mouna Ragam, and others were directed by him.Mani Ratnam
AR Rahman, a musician, congratulated his friend and the filmmaker on Twitter. He noted: "Congratulations #Manirathnam sir for becoming a member of the Academy. Oscar. PS 1 & 2, Dil se, Roja, Bombay and many more! Welcome to the club."

Filmmaker Mani Ratnam is regarded as one of the most inspirational figures in the business. In 1983, he made his directing debut with the Kannada film Pallavi Anu Pallavi. In 1986, he became well-known across the country with the Kamal Haasan-starring film Mouna Ragam. The movie became a turning point in Tamil cinema history.

Ratnam has delivered many hit films like Anjali, Agni Natchathiram, Thalapathi, Roja and Bombay, among several others.

A list of the 398 new members, many of whom are Indians, was released by the Academy. Names on the list included Chandrabose, MM Keeravani, Jr. NTR, Siddharth Roy Kapoor, Ram Charan, Karan Johar, and many others.
