Overview

Dr. Jessica Newman leads the quality improvement and patient safety program in the Division of Infectious Diseases and is involved in several ongoing medical education research endeavors.

Dr. Newman mentors medical students, internal medicine residents and fellows through research studies, manuscript composition, poster and oral conference presentations and other scholarly efforts locally as well as nationally. Her research areas of interest include inpatient and outpatient quality improvement, HIV and preventive health in persons living with HIV, medical education and adult learning techniques.

Dr. Newman's primary professional interests include Medical Education at all levels as well as medical education research. She mentors students interested in Infectious Diseases as the advisor for the KU School of Medicine Infectious Diseases Interest Group. She provides lectures/flipped classroom activities to medical students, Internal Medicine residents and fellows of several IM subspecialty programs and is a small group (CBCL) leader in the KU School of Medicine. In addition to her Infectious Diseases Threadhead position she is Director of the KU SOM Main Campus Infectious Diseases Student Enrichment Experience and the Internal Medicine Student Chief elective. She is a member of the KU School of Medicine Academy of Medical Educators. Dr. Newman also serves the Internal Medicine Residency Program as the Infectious Diseases Subspecialty Education Coordinator and Directs Resident/Student Education for the Division of Infectious Diseases.
