Early Life and Family

Dorothea’s early life was shaped by the love and support of her close-knit family and the vibrant community of Mahanoy City. Growing up surrounded by warmth and affection, she developed a strong bond with her parents, Dorothy and Emery Ihnat. Although they are no longer with us, their memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved them. Dorothea also cherished her extended family, including cousins John Petruska, Greg Petruska, Mary Mulligan, Theresa Cwikla, Joseph Petruska, Michael Petruska, Mary Walter, and Helen Lake. Her presence will be deeply missed by all of her relatives.
Education and Career
Dorothea was a dedicated scholar who pursued her passion for computer science. After graduating from Mahanoy Area High School, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Penn State University. Her commitment to education and her thirst for knowledge were evident in her academic achievements. Dorothea’s expertise and dedication made her a valuable asset in her career, where she worked diligently in the field of Human Resources at Becket & Lee LLP Attorneys at Law. Her contributions were highly regarded and she will be remembered for her professionalism and expertise.

Her deep love for her family was evident in the cherished moments they shared together and the lasting memories they created. Dorothea’s passion for Penn State football was well-known among her loved ones. She would eagerly gather with friends and family to cheer on her favorite team, creating a sense of camaraderie and excitement. Her enthusiasm for the sport brought people together and added a special touch to their gatherings.
Funeral Arrangements
The funeral service to honor Dorothea Ihnat will be held at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Mahanoy City. The Divine Liturgy and the Office of Christian Burial will commence, with the Reverend James Carroll presiding over the ceremony. Prior to the service, visitation will be held at the church. Dorothea will be laid to rest in the peaceful grounds of St. Mary’s Byzantine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Mary’s Church, a cause that was close to Dorothea’s heart. The compassionate team at Mahanoy City’s Louis D.
